We rang those Bells
Last Friday and Saturday more than a dozen Rotarians gave of their time to kick off the holiday season bell ringing for Salvation Army Annual Kettle Drive at the Giant Eagle in Poland. There is no telling how many funds were raised through their efforts but we can promise a great deal of holiday cheer was shared and spread! Thank you for living the theme Service Above Self!  See the new pics

Holiday Stocking Project

December 2020
There is still time to get into the holiday spirit and make Christmas morning brighter for 48 children that are part of CASA MADRE HIV/AIDS Ministry Ursuline Sisters. The group has asked our Youngstown Rotary to consider being a part of an important tradition by providing the filled-stockings to them. Please consider making a monetary gift to Youngstown Rotary Foundation/Christmas Stocking Project to fund this effort. Please reach out to Chair Sharon Letson if you would like to be involved.

Fight Hunger, Improving Nutrition
Hunger is not just a Global Problem: 17 million additional Americans face food insecurity in 2020 because of the pandemic. Two articles in this month's magazine focus on hunger in the United States. "Table for 5000" looks at the past and "Hunger Hits Home" looks at the present—reminding us that Rotary has addressed this problem during the Depression and is at work to do so now—both here and abroad.  Another article, “Saving Mothers and Children: A Strong Start” sets out the costs of malnutrition and looks at a program in Guatemala to improve nutrition. Become informed about the costs of malnutrition and of ways to help: www.foodplantsolution.org and www.rifled.org
This story, like all issues of Rotary, expand our knowledge of the places in which Rotarians are at work and of the variety of professions and work that others do that are essential to our well being. We encourage you to make time to read it.

Your Fellow Rotarian

John Fahnert
Compiled by Debora Flora
Past President John Fahnert brought a track record of success in TV marketing and sales to our Club when he joined 20 years ago. He used those connections to help promote the Groundhog Craft Beerfest to success in its inaugural year. Here, he explains what he appreciates most about that event, his family, and occasionally, getting dressed up.

THIS WEEK IN ROTARY HISTORY

November 1954: Harry Schagrin, a charter member, began his 40th year of perfect attendance, a record unsurpassed in the district and even throughout the Rotary world as far as can be determined; Harry was even brought to one meeting via “stretcher” when he was sick!

STAY INVOLVED & BE REWARDED

COVID has been tough on our fellowship opportunities for sure. However, we know that when we join in the meeting YOU are more likely to get involved. To make it even more attractive, we have a challenge for you: Attend every meeting this month -- in person or virtually -- and be part of a drawing for Dinner4Two at Prima!

Our District receives Rotary Foundation District Designated Funds each year. This approximately $50K is used to partner with a number of local and international projects by providing small sums as seed-money toward larger Rotary Foundation Global Grants. What a difference we can make in the world through these projects! During the past five years, District 6650 has raised more than $200,000 for The Rotary Foundation to do “Good in the World.”  This year District Governor Linda Henderson is adding a new contest to the annual Paul Harris Fellow Challenge with a new promo called Double Your DonationIt will allow donors of $100 or more to GIFT their matching Foundation Points to another Rotarian in their Club. You both receive the donor credit toward your first or next Paul Harris Fellow level! In mid-November, all Rotarians in the District will be receiving a letter further explaining this option.
