MY FELLOW ROTARIAN FEATURE

Name: Elayne M. S. Bozick
Preferred Nickname: Family and friends call me "Laynie"
Years in Rotary: 29
Resident of: Coitsville Township
Hometown: Youngstown
How long have you lived here? All my life minus 3 years.
What brought you here, or kept you here? Family and now friends.
Education: Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Youngstown State University; post graduate
work at Kent State University; followed by Life and Health Insurance, Series 7 and 66 Securities, and Real
Estate licenses.

Occupation: Realtor
Who is in your family circle? My husband, Lawrence.
Do you have any pets? If so, what are their names and what are they like? Our cat "Kitty" is a sweet,
affectionate creature.

When you are not working, how do you like to spend your time? Weather permitting, I prefer to be
outside either gardening, walking, swimming, biking -- I'd even settle for a glass of wine on the patio
with a good book. If trapped indoors I'll likely be in the studio painting, working on a project, sewing, or
in the kitchen baking/cooking something.

Why did you join Rotary? I had just started a business and wanted to expand my reach into the
community, but NOT within a "networking" organization. I was looking for an opportunity to serve
through an organization whose objective is to make a positive difference.
Why do you remain a Rotarian? I found everything I was looking for and more.
Which Rotary Project resonates with you and your understanding of our community's needs? Having
no children of my own, our relationship with Harding Elementary School, Put Kids First, and Project
Warm has provided opportunities to better understand the changing needs and evolving problems of
kids in our city. It is both joyous -- and concerning -- to know them, and so important that we do not lose
touch with our own future in these young people.

What does Rotary's motto "Service Above Self" mean to you? It is a personal mantra.
What would you be doing on Wednesdays if you didn't attend the weekly luncheon meeting? I'd be
working. I'd probably miss lunch altogether!

Which type of Rotary socials do you prefer - black tie affairs or casual attire? Both are equally fun to
me.

A Rotary tradition is to have sing-alongs during meetings. Would you ever lead us in a song? I'm way
too shy to feel comfortable doing that, plus, most of my Rotary friends know that I lack the lung power
to "project". That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

What do you think of Scott Schulick's Rotary pants, and would you wear a pair? LOVE LOVE LOVE
them, and I certainly would!

What's a story of yours that you don't get to tell often enough? There was this wombat ...
Okay. I am not a world traveler nor have I had the gumption to put adventure before responsibility, so I
don't believe I have an intriguing or entertaining story to tell. However! When I was in Japan ... no, you
don't want that one.

Can I just say that I feel blessed to have the family that I do? We are largely a pack of cousins who have
always gotten along very well. We were kids together and now we are growing older together. We enjoy
each other’s company and have seen each other through a few things. We give full credit to our parents
for that -- they were the same way. There has been our share of heartaches but NOT a lot of drama.
Somehow we all seem to feel that life is too short and our relationships are too precious to not take care
of each other.
