MEDIA EVENT The Groundhog Craft Beerfest kickoff event will be held on Friday, April 30, at 10:30 AM at the YWCA Mahoning Valley, located at 25 West Rayen Avenue in Youngstown. Online tickets go on sale that day. The YWCA was the recipient of a $20,000 grant from the 2019-2020 Rotary Club of Youngstown community grant program, financed in part by proceeds from the inaugural Groundhog Craft Beerfest. Leah Merritt, YWCA President & CEO, will be available to speak about the impact of the grant on her agency. Since the Beerfest’s inception in 2019, more than $30,000 has been raised to benefit the community, including grants to support the Robinson-Shuba statue project, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in conjunction with the United Way of the MV, and Rotary International’s Polio Plus program. HISTORY A little more than two years ago, the Rotary Club of Youngstown introduced the Mahoning Valley to Youngsatowney Paul, cousin to famed weather prognosticator Punxsutawney Phil and the Club’s early mascot. Like the rest of us, Paul has been in isolation for the past year, but now masked up and fully vaccinated, he is ready to celebrate in a safe, socially distanced manner! He doesn’t want to wait until Groundhog Day 2022 and will be in person at the YWCA, resplendent in his full summer attire of Hawaiian shirt, shades and, of course, mask. Sponsorships to support this event and its charitable beneficiaries are available. Information can be found on the Rotary Club of Youngstown website at www.YoungstownRotary.com or by calling the office at 330-743-8630.
