Dorothy Day House Update and Presentation of District Grant Check

Sister Ann McManamon serves as coordinator of the Dorothy Day House of Hospitality on Belmont Avenue in Youngstown which opened November 22, 2009.  Hospitality is offered by countless volunteers who cook, serve, clean, garden, or help with showers each week. Members of the Catholic Worker Community are committed to Dorothy Day’s call to community and to the aims and means of the Catholic Worker Movement.  The community meets and prays regularly for the grace to learn and to help nurture the seeds that have been planted in Youngstown.

She brings to this effort her experiences in education as a teacher, high school administrator, diocesan education consultant and assistant superintendent of secondary schools; as a manager in Christian housing for seniors and in administration in a seminary; in the health care field as VP for Mission Services at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center; and in parish ministry during her 13 years as pastoral associate at St. Christine Parish in Youngstown.  Sister Ann has served on numerous councils and boards in Youngstown as well as committees and in congregational leadership for the Sisters of the Humility of Mary.

Sister Ann was born and raised in Cleveland where she graduated from Lourdes Academy prior to entering the Sisters of the Humility of Mary in 1953.  She received her BA from Notre Dame College and her MA from the University of Notre Dame.  She earned MA certification in administration and supervision from John Carroll University and MA certification in Church Management from Seton Hall University. She is a 1996 graduate of Leadership Mahoning Valley and the recipient of a Youngstown Catholic Charities Voice of Hope Award in 2010.
