This month Rotary International has asked us to focus on the impact we can make on the wealth and growth of our community. Explore this topic with us at our meeting Wednesday at noon at MVR
Last week’s meeting: It was great to hear from Jim Bird, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Youngstown, one of our signature projects. One of the few after-school programs to be meeting in person this school year, BGC brought their students back to the Southside facility last June. Why? “Isolation leads to desolation. It pulls one into themselves and you lose connection with the greater community and often results in disconnection and negative behavior.” Bird detailed how his group and others around the region have remained nimble and collaborated with organizations like OH Wow! For virtual programming during this time. Looking forward, his staff is working on shifting to a model of “trauma-informed care” since so many of their clients have experienced such mental issues. He also is applying for a significant grant that would allow for building renovations and conversion of the space to a true neighborhood community center. “We want to send a message to our kids that they are worth it.” Learn more about the Club and its programs here
In addition, we had the pleasure of welcoming Pat Moran as a new member. He is seen below with his sponsor Steve Poullas. Find more pictures from last week here
Support our Beerfest - Recruit a Sponsor
Now is the time to participate in the 3rd Annual Groundhog Craft Beerfest by helping to recruit a sponsor. It's fun to drink great local beer, but the goal of Beerfest is to raise funds to support Rotary Community action, like gifts to the United Way, YWCA, and the fight against Polio.
You can help by finding individuals or businesses in our community willing to $250, $500, or more to support great work and great beer. Everything you need to know about the Beerfest and sponsorship is available on the 3rd Annual Craft Beerfest Page.

THIS WEEK IN ROTARY HISTORY
May 11, 1993:Dr. Richard Murray and Jerry Haber went to New York City to receive honors from Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia for the Rotary Club of Youngstown's project of sending medical supplies to her former country as it was ravaged by civil war.
Always wanted to go to the Rotary International Convention but can never find the time or the budget to make it happen? This is your lucky year! This year's convention has gone virtual!
Rotary Opens Opportunities will take place June 12-16 and registration opens in mid-April.
The Virtual Convention is open to all Rotary members and participants, so perhaps we can participate in some way as a group, invite a friend to join us or even share the event with our community.

Life After Lockdown
Let’s ease back into life after lockdown: Take it slowly – Simple things like doing the
grocery shopping, driving a car or spending time with
friends might feel strange as you move back into your
post-lockdown life. Rebuild your relationships – It’s been a while since you’ve physically seen your friends and family members – and remember, they’ve changed as much
as you have. Spend some time together processing
the experience, rebuilding bonds and supporting one
another as you move into the new normal. Reflect on your experience – Rather than focusing on going ‘back’ to your old life, take some
time to think about whether the lockdown experience could help you make positive changes going forward. Ask yourself, where do you and/or your Club/District
want to be in five years? Is working less, exercising
more, making more effort to spend time with friends and family one of your goals? Will hybrid or virtual
meetings be a constant in the future? Make a list of
new habits you’d like to embrace and start
implementing them, one by one.
Above all—Be safe and stay healthy.
