President's Message

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to week three of membership month, I wanted to share more on the benefits of being a Rotarian. This information is on Rotary.org but I feel that it is timely for our theme.

Becoming a Rotary member connects you with a diverse group of professionals who share your drive to give back. Through regular meetings and events, you’ll:

1. Discuss your community's needs and develop creative ways to meet them
2. Connect with others leaders who are changing the world
3. Expand your leadership and professional skills
4. Catch up with good friends and meet new ones

I can't express how important it is to attend our weekly meetings to fellowship with your Rotary family. It is through these meetings that we connect and begin to find our commonality and align our interest. This month, I requested that each of you take ten-minutes to reach out to a fellow a Rotarian, in person, via email, mail or by phone. I encourage you to continue reaching out and share with us something interesting you learned.   Please log into club runner for each members most updated information. Can't wait to see you all Wednesday, have a great week and remember Rotary Opens Opportunities!
Next Meeting August 12:  Mark Sweetwood, Thea Nixon from mahoning matters
Mark Sweeetwood and Thea Nixon will introduce Mahoning Matters and give a one-year perspective on their efforts in the Valley. By way of overview, the last of the Youngstown-based Vindicators was just about one year ago on Aug. 31, 2019. The Mahoning Matters crew started work on Sept. 4 and launched our website, mahoningmatters.com on Oct. 9, just 40 days after the Vindy closed. Thea Nixon directs the organization's Business Development & Community Partnerships..
Last Week's Meeting
Andrew Wingard from YSU spoke to us about his efforts in fundraising for the University.

A Broader Perspective on Rotary

Holger Knaack in his President’s message asks that we examine our strategies to “ask—and honestly answer—if we are doing all we can for our members and if our club reflects the community we serve.” Samantha has set out the plans for our club moving forward to doing so.

This issue, like all issues of the Rotarian expands our knowledge of Rotary at work in the world.

Reading the Rotarian is what led me to pledge to myself that I would support the Rotary Foundation through a major gift each year. The fliers distributed at our tables outlines the foci: Grow local economies; Promote education; Support maternal & child health; Provide clean water; Prevent disease; Build peace; Eradicate Polio.  The Foundation supports this work of our club and clubs throughout the world.
Your Fellow Rotarian:  Monsegnor Siffrin

This week we turn the spotlight on Bob Siffrin. Bob has been a member of our club for 28 years. You'll definitely want read his story beyond the priesthood.

This week in Rotary History

August 10, 2004:  Our Club developed a mission statement for strategic planning, and began the process by holding two meetings per month for the next three months.
