Our Weekly Meetings

Last Week's Meeting: One of the Valley's other premiere volunteerism-driven organizations is the Junior League of Youngstown. To learn more about the organization and its efforts, we were joined at our meeting by President Bergan Giordani.  Since its founding in 1901, The Junior League has evolved into one of the oldest, largest, and most effective women’s volunteer organizations in the world, encompassing more than 125,000 women in more than 295 Leagues in four countries. JLY believes that many women want to volunteer, but they don’t know how to focus their time and talent to make a significant impact. So since its beginnings locally in 1929, the Club has made an effort to train members and gives them the opportunity to develop their skills in program planning, research and development, marketing, fundraising, while supporting community change and improvement. Past events include the Pink Ribbon Tea, Follies, Kentucky Derby and more. Learn more about the JLY here. More pictures from the meeting are available here.

Next Week's Meeting: Join us as we recognize some of our area's budding scholars!

Opportunities for Action
The Board has announced a call for applicants for the RAND D. BECKER Rotary A.C.T.S. Program
(Active Commitment to Service) mini-grant program.
The purpose of this fund is to provide the means for Rotarians to "be actively involved in the expenditure and utilization of the Youngstown Rotary Foundation funds for special service projects within the limits of Youngstown City."
Five $500 grants will be awarded to up to five Rotarians who have rallied 10 of their fellow members to work on the proposed project with them. Each proposal must be submitted with the Project Proposal and Project Report forms available here

Expanding Our Reach
“Jailhouse Bach” is the story of GraceNotes Prison Outreach Program to those in Otisville
Correctional Facility. The work of these musicians so impressed Chappaqua Rotary Club that
they have supported the concerts through a $500 grant. The work engaged in and
supported by Rotary Clubs around the globe is so impressive and varied.
Reading Rotary provides both inspiration and affirmation. My takeaway from this issue is: “When taken to heart, the quality of being a Rotarian can encompass, empower, and enhance an entire life as well as the lives of others.”
This story, like all issues of Rotary, expands our knowledge of the places in which Rotarians are at work and of the variety of professions and work that others do that are essential to our well-being. We encourage you to make time to read it.

When he was a schoolboy, Kevin Chiu began to accompany his father, YT Chiu, to Rotary events. Today, as a father of four and an RCY member in his own right, he looks back on lessons learned from Dad and the reign of the “Chiu Dynasty.”

Always wanted to go to the Rotary International Convention but can never find the time or the budget to make it happen? This is your lucky year! This year's convention has gone virtual!
Rotary Opens Opportunities will take place June 12-16 and registration opens in mid-April.
The Virtual Convention is open to all Rotary members and participants, so perhaps we can participate in some way as a group, invite a friend to join us or even share the event with our community.
