This Week's Meeting

Co-presenters Joyce Loychik and Melicia White of COMPASS Family & Community Services will discuss disability in the workplace, both in terms of etiquette and requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Loychik has worked for Compass for 32 years. As Employment Outreach Coordinator, she has worked directly and indirectly with persons who have some barriers and want and need vocational guidance, counseling, and support to achieve success in the workforce.  She has used her skills of teaching, mentoring, and motivating clientele and staff to identify strengths in others while exuding her positivity and tireless energy that encouraged others to work hard and succeed.

Loychik earned a Bachelor of Science in Education at Bowling Green State University and a Master of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling at Kent State University. As she transitions to part-time employment, she is seeking service-related opportunities that will build upon her skill sets and help her to achieve her personal goals. Originally from Brookfield, she and her husband moved a few years ago from Cortland to Poland.  In addition to her career, she enjoys scuba diving and snow skiing and teaches water aerobics.

White, an employment specialist and 14-year employee of Compass, guides individuals of all ages and abilities to overcome challenges and achieve their employment and education goals. She has used her calming reassurance to help others weather storms and rebuild using perseverance and organization. Her clientele includes persons with severe and persistent mental illness, chronically homeless persons, and individuals who experience psychosis for the first time.

She graduated from Chatham University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Multicultural Studies.  She is a lifelong resident of Youngstown. A parent to 2 fantastic children, she and her husband are guiding them to independence and successful careers.  She also enjoys sewing, exercising, reading, watching action movies and solving puzzles.
