Why the Rotary Year begins July 1
Rotary’s first fiscal year began the day after the first convention ended, on 18 August 1910. The 1911-12 fiscal year also related to the convention, beginning with the first day of the 1911 convention on 21 August. The term “Rotary year” has been used to signify Rotary's annual administrative period since at least 1913. Learn more about it HERE
Rotary Magazine
This Rotary issue introduces us to Rotary’s new President: Shektar Mehta. Mehta asks us to “grow more and do more.” “Dream Weaver” is the title given him and the essay that sets forth his accomplishments. Happy Schools, an amazing program that seeks to end illiteracy in India, is just one of his many initiatives. Read the testimonies by those who know him and his work and through his example of service and fellowship be inspired to dream of how we might continue to grow and contribute to the work of Rotary locally and internationally.

OAK TREES
The mighty oak is truly a giant of the plant kingdom.
Not only do they sustain a crucial and complex web of wildlife above ground, they are as impressive underground producing enormous root systems that make them champions of carbon sequestration, and watershed management.
It's true. They sustain everything from acorn-collecting woodpeckers to caterpillars that dazzle like jewels.
Oak trees (also pollen producers!) support more life forms and interactions than any other tree genus in North America?

Welcome Message from new District Governor
"I think it is important that our clubs have plans to rebuild, reflect, revitalize, and reinforce for the present and the future. There is a popular adage often attributed to Benjamin Franklin, the father of time management: "failing to plan is planning to fail." Planning is essential to achieving success in all areas of life, including our government, businesses, educational communities, for our residents, and especially for Rotary as our clubs strive to become better."
"As we move into a new Rotary year, as I think back on the past two years the word that comes to mind is appreciation. To all who allowed me to be part of their Rotary family, I’m thankful. At this challenging time for our members, our organization, our communities, and our families, I can’t imagine anyone more capable to hand the baton to than RID Elizabeth Usovicz. I look forward to our paths crossing in whatever new role or assignment is in store for each of us." Read his whole letter here

July is New Leadership Month
Each year Rotary Clubs and Districts across the globe induct new leaders. Our leaders exemplify all of the qualities that make our members extraordinary; integrity, expertise, and commitment to service.
Rotary develops leaders by providing opportunities for all members to provide service to our local communities and communities across the globe. With that service comes a learning experience in the areas of leadership, team building, planning, marketing, communication, and organization.
Serving as a Club or District officer or committee member provides an opportunity to enrich your leadership skills by sharing experiences and ideas with other Rotarians throughout the region.
